Munich MVV 2026 fares · Single Innenraum €3.90

Munich MVV zone calculator — pick the right ticket for your day, not the cheapest one.

MVV (Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund) covers U-Bahn, S-Bahn, bus, tram and the Lufthansa Express bus to Munich Airport. The fare is set by the number of zones crossed: Innenraum (München city), and Außenraum rings 1-4 outward to the airport, Dachau, Starnberg, Erding. The ticket type (Single, Streifenkarte, Tageskarte) is a separate decision.

Your Munich trip

Group tickets (Tageskarte Gruppe) only available for up to 5 adults.
Trips = number of separate rides (return = 2).

MVV 2026: Single Innenraum €3.90, Außenraum 1 €3.90, +€1.20 per additional ring. Streifenkarte €17 / 6 stripes (1 stripe = 1 zone 1 dir, 2 stripes = city, 5 stripes = MUC airport).

What this solves

Munich tourists make the same mistake twice: they buy a €3.90 Einzelkarte to go from Hauptbahnhof to Marienplatz and back, then buy a second for the same journey — that's €7.80 when a Tageskarte at €9.80 would cover them for 24 h. Or they buy the Streifenkarte (6 stripes for €17.00) when their day trip is a single 2-stripe ride, paying more than the Einzelkarte.

The deeper pitfall is the airport trip. A common belief is "I will take the S1 or S8 and pay €11.20 single to/from central München". True — but if you also ride the U-Bahn once you arrive, the Airport-City-Ticket for €13.00 covers S1+S8 + 1 ride inside the city on the day. And for two trips inside München that same day, the regular Tageskarte Innenraum at €9.80 is cheaper than 2 singles.

FAQ

Is the S-Bahn to Munich Airport included?

Yes — S1 (Freising) and S8 (Herrsching) both terminate at MUC Flughafen. Single trip Innenraum → Airport MFC = 5 rings of fare = €11.20 single. Alternatively, Lufthansa Express Bus from Hauptbahnhof (~45 min, €12 single). DB's official recommendation is S1/S8 if you have luggage — bus is faster but less luggage-friendly.

What is the difference between Streifenkarte 3 and Streifenkarte 6?

Streifenkarte 3 has 3 stripes for €9.00. Streifenkarte 6 has 6 stripes for €17.00 (better per-stripe price). Each ring crossing = 1 stripe (going from Innenraum to ring 1 = 2 stripes total: 1 for the trip through M, 1 through ring 1). Useful if you make 3-5 short trips. For unlimited rides all day, Tageskarte wins.

When does the 9-Uhr Tageskarte make sense?

9-Uhr Tageskarte is valid Mon-Fri from 9 AM onward (any Sat/Sun all day). Costs ~€3 less than the standard Tageskarte. For a weekend tourist, irrelevant. For a weekday visitor who arrives at 11 AM and leaves at 6 PM, saves €3. For a tight-budget student who only goes out at noon, the saving matters.

Does the MVV ticket include Neuschwanstein day trip?

No — Neuschwanstein is in the Werdenfelser Land outside MVV. You need a separate Bayern-Ticket (€29 for 1, +5€34 if you have a partner), which covers all regional trains in Bayern up to Füssen. The total Füssen trip from München Hbf = ~2h15 by regional train (BRB). Bayern-Ticket is valid from 9 AM Mon-Fri.
